"Delilah's Black Book of Poems" by 'Dark Whisper' was the first Dramione fan fiction story that I had ever read.
I started reading it nearly five years ago, and I always end up going back to re-read this masterpiece every few months. Over the years, I know I've grown as a reader, especially when it comes to how I am with fan fiction, but this story definitely tagged along with me.
(Spoiler Alert): I found myself fascinated with this story from the very beginning. I loved how Draco wanted to prevent the future he had seen from happening, and that indeed made him more fascinated with Hermione. I liked the take on Lavender feeling 'invisible' and the gifts that Draco sends to the Weasleys, which we learn they actually cherish. I loved how selfless Blaise was. I loved how the both of them could actually understand one another. I was reading the story, enraptured, when lines like 'Trust me for an hour' and 'Could you love a Death Eater?' made their entrance. I simply adored the concept of the Black Canvas vaults and the following lines made me get tears in my eyes:
1.
"Love is a curse.
And dark is the heart and mind of the one
Who will never hold the hand…
Or kiss the lips…
Or make love to…
The one that is… forbidden."
2.
"If my eyes are sad, it is because they cannot have what they see. If my hands tremble, it is because they cannot touch what they want to hold. If my heart aches, it is because it is not permitted to love the forbidden. What good is hope when there is no remedy for any of it?"
3.
"When I close my eyes and picture it, it is you who lies with me.'
The entire concept of 'Delilah's Black Book of Poems' in the story and how it caused an actual link between Draco and Hermione's story along with the story of one of the Peverells was just so beautiful. Draco seeing Hermione's projection made me tear up a little. Bringing in the Aurora Borealis which I've always wanted to see and Westminster Abbey, was just another highlight. The ending was another beautiful thing, seeing Draco and Hermione love each other even in their old age, passing on to whatever's next together. I loved this story and I always will. This story shows us that we can always make our own destiny, if we try.
Thank you to the author for this brilliant piece. My love for this story will continue to grow with each passing day. This may be my longest review yet. This post provides the link with respect to my Instagram account entering around Dramione Fan fiction Recommendations. Have a lovely read!
Story plot belongs to the author listed above but characters and basic location are all, obviously adapted from the 'Harry Potter' series by JKRowling!
