Destiny

"Destiny" by 'Annie Lockwood' is one of those fan fictions that I come back to re-read every few months. There is just something magical about that 28th chapter that always lures me back.

You may think this is one of those cliché stories where Hermione has forgotten her memories, but it is not that at all. It is beautifully spun to lead to the very essence of the story, which is that we make our own destiny.

This fan fiction does have a sequel titled 'Serendipity', which is still a work-in-progress, and is updated sporadically. It is still a highly loved and followed story though. Both the stories are available on fanfiction.net, and I am unaware if it is available on any other platform.

SPOILER ALERT: This is technically not even a review, because I'm choosing to just list what I personally found great about this story. I absolutely loved how unique this story was. I loved that there was no certainty when it came to Hermione's future. I loved every bit of the Draco Malfoy portrayed in this fan fiction. It was wonderful to see original characters like Pamela and Ariana, and how well they fit into the story. Jasper and Hayden, I only wish they were cannon, but alas, I will never find them outside this story. However heartbreaking the ending might have been, I liked how it set off into the sequel.

Destiny is often described as a set of predetermined events that will run its course no matter what you choose to change, but that is not the case with this story. You can always choose where you end up, whether you believe in a higher power or not. It is your choice, your decision, even in the simplest of matters, which ultimately affects your future. And Hermione, thankfully, made the right choice.
